A Day to Remember: Celebrating the African Child and Standing Against Child Labour

The Foundation for Youth and Women Empowerment (FYWE) proudly joined the official celebration of the Day of the African Child and the World Day Against Child Labour—a day that stirred hearts, inspired hope, and renewed our collective commitment to protecting and uplifting every child across Liberia.

The event was more than a celebration—it was a call to action. The atmosphere was filled with emotion as children bravely took the stage to share their experiences, dreams, and challenges. Their voices carried powerful messages—reminding everyone present that the future of Liberia rests in how we treat and nurture our youngest citizens.

Listening to these courageous children speak was deeply moving. They spoke not only of their struggles but also of their unwavering determination to learn, to grow, and to be heard. They called upon the Government of Liberia, particularly the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection, the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Agriculture, to stand firm in their responsibility to create an environment where children can thrive—free from labour, abuse, and neglect.

At FYWE, we believe every child deserves better—better opportunities, better protection, and a better future. We cannot remain silent when our children’s dreams are at stake. It is time to move beyond words and take action—advocating for child-friendly budgets, implementing effective protection policies, and ensuring that no child is left behind.

The voices of the children reminded us that this is not just about compassion—it’s about justice. Together, we must continue to raise awareness, challenge harmful norms, and build a Liberia where every child can learn, play, and live with dignity.

Every child matters. Every voice counts. Every action makes a difference.
