FYWE Joins Drug Abuse Awareness March
Standing with more than 2,000 young Liberians, FYWE marched through Monrovia to say a firm NO to drugs and drug trafficking. The campaign raised awareness about rising youth substance abuse and called for urgent community action to protect Liberia’s future generation.
The Foundation for Youth and Women Empowerment (FYWE) proudly joined the 2025 National Drug Abuse Awareness March — from Boulevard Junction to the Ministerial Complex — along with more than 2,000 youth, civil society partners, and community advocates to say a loud and clear NO to drugs and drug trafficking.
According to UNFPA Liberia, 2 in 10 young people in the country use narcotic substances. A study by the National Library of Medicine found that 51% of school-aged youth in Monrovia have used alcohol, and 9% reported marijuana use. The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency also estimates that over 47,000 young people nationwide are affected by substance abuse.
FYWE continues to lead community-based prevention and rehabilitation programs, reaching over 5,000 at-risk youth through awareness campaigns, counseling, and peer education since 2023.
“The time to act is NOW. The time to protect our youth is NOW. The time to save our future is NOW.”
Together, we can end addiction, protect communities, and create opportunities for young people to thrive.
