FYWE Participates in Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day

FYWE joined over 150 youth and stakeholders for Liberia’s Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day, emphasizing the need for climate action as a movement not a moment. The event highlighted the vital role of young people in achieving Liberia’s 2035 climate targets and promoting resilience across vulnerable communities.
In observance of Youth Climate Adaptation Action Day, the Foundation for Youth and Women Empowerment (FYWE) joined over 150 young leaders, civil society organizations, and policymakers to discuss climate resilience and adaptation strategies in Liberia.
The dialogue reinforced that climate action must be a movement, not a moment. With over 60% of Liberia’s population under the age of 25, youth involvement is crucial in shaping national climate policies and ensuring sustainable development.
According to the UNFCCC, the Conference of the Parties (COP 16) established the National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) to assist developing nations in addressing their long-term climate needs. Liberia’s 2035 climate targets include a 10% unconditional emissions reduction and a 54% conditional reduction with international support.
Climate change already affects more than 2 million Liberians each year through flooding, sea-level rise, and drought. FYWE’s youth-led initiatives focus on renewable energy education, mangrove restoration, and climate-smart agriculture in rural communities.
FYWE extends appreciation to Liberian Youth for Climate Action for hosting this year’s consultation on Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) — ensuring that young voices continue to shape Liberia’s climate future.
