FYWE Commemorates World Day Against Child Labour
On World Day Against Child Labour, FYWE reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children’s rights and ending child exploitation in Liberia. With nearly 30% of children engaged in labour, FYWE’s programs focus on education, awareness, and empowerment for every child to dream beyond work.
The Foundation for Youth and Women Empowerment (FYWE) joins the global community in commemorating the World Day Against Child Labour, reaffirming its commitment to protecting every child’s right to safety, health, and education.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, approximately 30% of Liberian children aged 5–14 are engaged in some form of work. Meanwhile, Freedom Fund data indicate that 40.5% of children aged 5–17 are working, and nearly 29.5% are involved in hazardous occupations.
FYWE works with schools, parents, and local leaders to promote free and safe education, raise awareness about child exploitation, and advocate for stronger protection laws.
Through the Child Protection and Empowerment Program (CPEP), FYWE has helped more than 800 children return to school and provided vocational training to 250 adolescent girls since 2022.
“Every child deserves books, not tools. Classrooms, not worksites.”
Let us protect children’s rights and promote their dreams — not their labour.
